We love good stories. And old pictures. And timeless lessons and encouragements and reasons for hope. Who better to share all of those things than some of the SOS alumni family?

Here’s some of the SOS story of our dear friend Christina Crutchfield.

This woman has worn ALL the SOS shirts! She was a Binghampton Team Leader in 2012, a SOS114 Team Leader in 2013, and Support Staffer in 2016.

I love going to get bbq nachos at Central and stopping at La Michoacana for paletas. I love going downtown to the river parks. A few years ago some friends and I had a challenge of going to different Memphis Landmarks and doing handstands, at mud island, at the pyramid, at the Peabody, just because…
— Christina on her Memphis favorites
Well, I learned how roofs work and I learned that WD-40 can remove Tar from your skin. But far more important, SOS was the first time that I heard and truly understood the beauty and the gravity of redemptive/restorative grace. It was beautiful to see that grace displayed in fixing a roof, hanging out with campers, or getting to know fellow summer staff.
— Christina, when asked what she learned through SOS
Before SOS I did many service projects and for the most part it was just goodhearted people getting together to do a job. SOS was the first place that really challenged why and how they were doing the work. That simple principle of checking in, has followed my work till this day. SOS also opened my eyes to different kinds of urban ministries. Summer 2012 was the first time I ever heard of a community development corporation. Now as a person working full-time in community development I can easily trace my interest and introduction to this field to BDC coming to visit that summer.

Check out the Heights CDC to see where Christina is investing today as a Community Coordinator.

I pray that the SOS alumni and current staff will always remember the ways that we saw God make all things new in our summers, so that we may be encouraged that God is still making all things new where ever we are in our lives.
