Could this be your best summer yet?
Summers at SOS are long, hot, and totally exhausting. Yet, they are also life changing, best-ever, “remember when?!” kind of summers.
Every summer we invite a crew of college-age men and women who are hungry for an opportunity to serve and grow in and engage the Gospel in a unique, hands-on, all-in, deep-in-community way. Despite all the pivots and adjustments, that offer will always be on the table.
Come as you are, but know you’ll leave changed. As you give your all to the Kingdom-building, Creation-reconciling, God-honoring work SOS has been called to, know that you will be called to and coached in the life-giving and life-refining rhythms of personal and communal discipleship.
Led closely by our Full Time Staff, our Summer Staff family will have the opportunity to partner with neighborhood youth and homeowners to provide critical home repair, build relationships, and celebrate and proclaim Jesus Christ.
Will you join us? Watch for applications to go live in October.
Tell me about the 2025 Summer Staff Team!

Job Description: SOS Team Leader
Team Leaders will strive to uphold the mission of SOS to glorify God by proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in underserved
neighborhoods through home repair and leadership development.
TEAM LEADERS are the lifeblood of the SOS experience! Team Leaders focus on a few major objectives (volunteer care,
homeowner partner care, worksite leadership), but the real magic is found in how they carry those objectives forward. Team
Leaders are called to operate with a high standard of emotional intelligence, the ability to communicate effectively, with
servanthood, humility, leadership, kindness, fortitude, and fun.
TEAM LEADERS aren’t super-human, but they are really super humans. They are:
●
VIBRANT SOS is a place for vibrant and passionate people. We spend our moments and days in ordinary enough ways,
but our vibrant staff makes the ordinary extraordinary. Team Leaders will show a high level of relational and emotional
intelligence, gifts in communicating effectively and listening well in both one on one and with groups, and a visible joy
and enthusiasm in getting to facilitate and participate in the work of SOS.
●
VISIONARY Successful team leaders will balance being present in the moment with the ability to think ahead and
anticipate needs. While often equipped with a general plan, team leaders are also often called upon to respond to
factors out of their control (weather, campers, construction needs, etc.) and to be able to pivot and lead well.
●
LEADERS Quick to lead by serving, team leaders carry the huge and holy responsibility of relational care of SOS
volunteers and worksite leadership. The SOS brand of leadership looks to Jesus and the call to lead with love, humility,
patience, vision, personal discipline, great joy, and invitation.
Some specific responsibilities of the role:
●
Camp Counselor
○
Serve as a camp counselor to a team of high school campers each week of camp.
○
Team Leaders will be trained and supported in meeting the relational goals of the SOS experience. Team
leaders will do this work both on the worksite and by their posture and presence during all camp activities.
●
Worksite Construction
○
Lead volunteer groups in roof replacements with critical goals of empowerment, experience, and excellence.
○
During pre-summer training, Team Leaders will be trained in every aspect of worksite leadership and will be
closely supported by other staffers on the worksite during the summer.
●
Community Care
○
As a member of the SOS team, team leaders will show a posture of equity and inclusion by welcoming and
empathetically listening to the voices, wisdom, and experiences of those represented in our neighborhood
and community, likely chiefly to homeowner partners and neighbors of each worksite.
○
SOS Summer Staff will create and live in community with each other. This temporary and beloved
community will require grace, personal discipline, cooperation, and love from each individual to realize our
hope of an authentic, diverse, and rich community.
