Meet a Builder

SOS Builds is well into its inaugural year. Ally, our Builds director, sat down with an SOS Builder for an interview. Robert is an all-star of SOS Builds. He participated in the one-day pilot program in the Spring of 2014 and has been a member of the inaugural Builds team this school year. He’s smart, funny and got an eye for using a speed square correctly…which is far more difficult than it may seem! A: Alright Robert, thanks for letting me interview you. You are the first ever “Meet A Builder” interview! So, lets start with your name. R: Robert Morton A: And how old are you? R: 12 and I’m in 7th grade (at Lester Prep Middle School) – um, but I’m almost 13. A: 13!? When’s your birthday? R: February 27

A: What is the hardest thing about being a kid? R: You don’t have nothing to do.

A: What is the best thing about being a kid? R: You can play sports A: And what’s your favorite sport? R: Football A: You played football last fall, right? What position do you play? R: Cornerback A: Like Richard Sherman? R: Yeah, kinda. [smile]

A: Why are you in SOS Builds? R: Because I want to be an engineer one day

A: How would you describe SOS Builds to someone who had never heard about it? R: I’d tell ‘em to come! It’ll teach you how to build things like a doghouse, a clubhouse and more.

A: What is the best thing we’ve done in Builds? R: When we built the doghouse

A: Of all the things you are learning in Builds, what do you think will be the most useful when you are an adult? R: I like the saws – miter saw and jig saw. I’ll probably use hammers and screw guns the most.

A: Describe what you’re doing and where you’re living when you’re 30 years old. R: Living in a big house with fancy cars, like Range Rovers, a Bugatti and a Phantom. I’ll be building cars and fixing other cars like a car mechanic and car designer. A: Where would you be living? R: Miami.

A: If you could grow up to be famous, what would you want to be famous for? R: For designing the best car of the year.

A: If you could give one gift to every single kid in the world, what would you give? R: Good medium sized houses because some kids don’t have houses or families.

A: If you could invent something that would make life easier/better for people, what would you invent? R: Cars and houses A: I think there’s a theme in your answers. R: Yeah…[smile]

A: If you could make one rule that everyone in the world had to follow, what rule would you make/why? R: Everything should be free in stores so people who don’t have money can get stuff and nobody would steal.

A: What five words do you think most describe you? R: Smart, intelligent, good behavior, kind, loving A: I totally agree.
