Meet Our New Camp Director!
JONATHAN KING will join our team this May as our new Camp Director. He will lead and oversee our home repair camps including program planning and leadership as well as recruiting, hiring, managing, and discipling college summer staff.
Jonathan grew up in Sparta, IL, and graduated with a BS in General Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in December of 2005. He’s worked with Illini Life Christian Fellowship, a campus church in the Collegiate Church Network, from 2006-2009 and 2010-present.
His work with college students on the UIUC campus has encompassed a variety of roles, including: discipleship, leadership development, organizing mission projects, fundraising, conversation and Bible study with international students, and hosting small groups. During this time, Jonathan has also completed a Graduate Certificate from Urbana Theological Seminary in Biblical and theological foundations.
He met his bride, Amber, during the summer of 2005 while working at a Christian leadership camp at YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, CO. They were married in 2007, and became parents to Annamarie Josephine in 2011.
Both Jonathan and Amber participated in the SOS Academy, Class of 2010. During that time, Jonathan worked with Christ Community Ministries, serving the refugee population, while Amber worked with the Binghampton Development Corporation.
Jonathan likes trying new things, Farside comics and doing voices while reading books to his daughter. He’s a runner, a reader, a writer, a photographer, and an eater of ice cream.
When asked about why he was excited to be joining the SOS team, Jonathan said:
“The manner in which God has worked through SOS to glorify his name and transform countless lives captures my attention. I am grateful to become further knit in with not just an organization, but a family which has this sort of Christ-honoring legacy, not the least of which has been in my own life. And we are pumped to be returning to the great people and the great city of Memphis!”
The Kings will move back to Memphis for Jonathan to begin in his new role in early May just in time for summer camps. We are pumped to welcome Jonathan and Amber, and now Annamarie, back to Memphis and to the SOS family!
