SOS Around the World
This year at the SOS 25th Anniversary Celebration David Montague (former SOS Executive Director and currently the director of the Memphis Teacher Residency) was the keynote speaker for our summer staff alumni celebration. He mentioned several key themes that SOS has strongly held on to over the past 25 years that have shaped what we've done. One of them is God's great love for all nations.
Oh sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth! Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the LORD made the heavens. -Psalm 96:1-5
One of the ways that we emphasize this is by giving summer staff alumni an opportunity to see and experience what the Lord is doing around this world. This year, a team of 16 former summer staff are going to Kenya in December/January (at the same time the SOS Academy Interns will be in India). We'll be partnering with Planting Faith Ministries to serve and encourage orphans by building them a playground and spending time with them. We'll also dig ditches for an irrigation system (see photo below) that will help Kenyan farmers produce better crops, thus having more income to send their children to better schools. Proclamation of the gospel in word and deed!
There are two huge ways that you can partner with us as we serve in this way:
- Please consider partnering with us in prayer. Please pray that the Lord will use our short time there to encourage and impact those we'll be working with. Also pray that the Lord will change each of us as we take part in the work He is doing around the world. Pray that He will be glorified, and we will make much of His name throughout the world!
- Please consider partnering with us financially. There's obviously a large cost to an endeavor such as this, so if you're able, we would love your support. Anything is helpful - large or small. You can make a contribution online. Just be sure to note "Kenya" in the designation field. Or you can send a check to SOS (2505 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38112). Just be sure to note "Kenya" in the memo line or an enclosed note.
