SOS Builds

We are excited to announce the launching of a new program at SOS:   SOS Builds!

SOS Builds is an after school program providing educational, spiritual, and leadership enrichment for urban youth through hands-on construction training. We have already conducted two successful pilot trials with kids from Cornerstone Prep and Lester Middle School this spring. We are launching this program in full beginning in Fall 2014.

Through SOS Builds youth from Binghampton will have the opportunity to design, plan, and construct a significant building project in Binghampton. We also see this as an incredible opportunity for students to get plugged into our work and begin growing as community leaders.

Our goals for the program are:

• Give urban youth practical job skills in construction.

• Enhance the education experience for urban youth by giving them practical ways to learn and reinforce what they are already learning in the classroom.

• Share the gospel with, disciple, and mentor urban youth.

• Develop urban youth as servant leaders.

• Recruit urban youth to come back to SOS in the future as campers, summer staff, interns, and staff.

We believe this program will be a critical part of our efforts to empower people and transform neighborhoods like Binghampton by proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed.
