Smelling salts in hand! This is big.

Now announcing: In-person, hands-on, guaranteed-to-sweat volunteer opportunities at SOS.

Overwhelmed with joy, thanksgiving, and an innate urge to slap a pack of shingles? Yeah, we feel it, too!

A hundred things to say, but here’s the summary: Thank you for sticking with us and oh, how we have missed you!

We’re not totally on the “other side” of the global pandemic for which we canceled basically everything last summer, but we’re hopeful we’ve found a few opportunities for local volunteers with a high regard for safety protocols to partner with us in our work at SOS this summer.

The opportunity is this: SOS will do full roof replacements on at least twenty houses this summer. Most of the work will be done by a small staff team, but we need your help, energy and enthusiasm to get us all the way there. We’re dedicating one week (Monday, June 28 - Thursday, July 1) to this volunteer train and aiming for two full roof replacements. Details below!

More Information

  • Dates: Monday, June 28th - Thursday, July 1st

  • Workdays will be 7:30 am - 3:30 pm

  • Volunteers will be led by SOS full-time staff and summer staff alumni.

  • SOS will provide lunch, programming content, and an SOS shirt for each volunteer worker.

  • Come ready to bust it out! We will be opening 2 houses (one group per worksite each day) and aiming for full and complete roof replacement on each by end of day Thursday!

Build your team! These volunteer opportunities are reserved for students 16 and older and each team must have at least one member 21 or older. Each worksite can host up to eight volunteers. This is a great spot for upper high school or college groups to work together! Each team must have a group leader, responsible for ongoing communication and registration.

COVID-19 Safety Concerns

SOS is committed to operating with an abundance of caution in regards to the threats of COVID-19, especially in ways in which we are welcoming volunteers into the neighborhoods in which we’ll be working. To that end, all volunteers can expect both adapted procedures in our work and required screening protocols at the point of volunteering. Thank you for your cooperation and grace as we seek to keep our slice of the Kingdom healthy and well!
