SOS Family Album: Emily Dover

Gather ‘round, SOS family! We’re pulling out a few pages of the family photo album.

We love good stories. And old pictures. And timeless lessons and encouragements and reasons for hope. Who better to share all of those things than some of the SOS alumni family?

The Memphis non-profit/ministry community is beautifully collaborative and earnestly seeks to support each other. SOS is often the beneficiary of that goodwill, especially when it comes to partners working to help us recruit the annual summer staff.

And how’s this for a fun genesis story: Jeff Riddle (SOS Academy ‘13, SOS Intern ‘14) joined Choose901 to lead the charge on creating Serve901, a way to bring servant-hearted leaders to learn and invest in Memphis.

There was a certain hardworking, all-heart, full of passion and kindness participant on one of the Serve901 trips...before you know it, SOS had a new application to join the 2018 Summer Staff. From Serve901 participant to two-time Summer Staffer, we give you...

What are some favorite SOS moments/memories?

Showing the 2019 week 5 music video in Chapel, that secret day that happens toward the end of July ;)

What did you learn through your years and experiences at SOS?

Thinking you can handle life on your own, without putting your trust in God, is a silly joke that won’t last long. If you don’t believe me, try teaching middle and high schoolers how to roof a house in 90-degree weather!

Memphis Favorites:

Jerry’s Sno Cones, Bass Pro, Civil Rights Museum, Mud Island

How did your time at SOS impact you?

People will have different perspectives on life based on their experiences. My perspective will be different than the next person because we don’t live the same life. Loving others means making an effort to see through their eyes and find common ground through Jesus.

What does your life look like these days?

I will be graduating from Clemson University in August with a degree in Graphic Communications. I’m not sure what the future holds but I’m excited to see what God has planned!

What’s your prayer for the SOS family?

My prayer is that SOS will be able resume camp. That campers, staffers, and community members will be able to build relationships, have conversations, and learn from one another again.
