SOS Family Album: Nathan Upp

Gather ‘round, SOS family! We’re pulling out a few pages of the family photo album.

We love good stories. And old pictures. And timeless lessons and encouragements and reasons for hope. Who better to share all of those things than some of the SOS alumni family?

The legacy of SOS is so strong in many churches and youth groups. The loyalty just keeps passing grade to grade and gets stronger and stronger. The groups come to SOS, serve us as we seek to serve them and takes the best of service and care back home with them.

This guy came to us through one such pipeline. We saw his earnest heart and desire to serve as a camper and learned with him as a team leader embracing the way of Jesus.

What are some favorite SOS moments/memories?

My favorite memories from SOS are all the relationships I made and meeting new people that have an effect on me. I really enjoyed the campers as well, meeting them on Sunday night, and watching them grow over the week was a blessing seeing how I and the city of Memphis can change someone in just 5 days. Some of my favorite moments were the trips my campers and I would take to lunch a few times and sitting in the van while it rained. Really got to appreciate the campers perspective with the conversations on the roof with a couple of them. Loved the car rides to restaurants and stores and just around town with the other staffers. Roomie tuesday, random trips to Cookout after chapel and our fun weekend activities!

What did you learn through your years and experiences at SOS?

I learned at SOS that it is easier to be myself rather than try to be someone I’m not. I learned that I can trust in God and with that all things are possible. Was able to be me, and learn to not care what other people think of me.

Memphis Favorites:

I love the food in Memphis: Central, Memphis Pizza Cafe.
Love SOS and everything that they do, Choose 901, the BDC.
Really like the little squares with all the shops and restaurants, the scenery around town and of course the Pyramid!

What does your life look like these days?

Still working in construction! (Thanks to SOS for helping me find something I’m good at and enjoy!) Currently, I am a Trim Carpenter here at home, loving it and loving life!

What’s your prayer for the SOS family?

I pray for the current SOS family and for the alumni I got to work with, that they can strive in what they are doing, and for health and happiness and that everything that they want comes into fruition.
