Meet Our Summer Staff: Kayley Collins

How did you get connected to SOS? I came on a Spring break trip a few years ago and then I did the SOS Academy last year.

What is your role this summer?

Kitchen Director

How does your position fit into the bigger picture of SOS?

I mean, if people aren’t fed, SOS can’t happen. Look at all the times in the Bible Jesus ate with people. Food is important.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Get up with my morning face @kimbo. Get into the kitchen and start cooking. Cook breakfast and then help lay out lunch. Oversee food ordering & budgeting.

Partner with volunteers in the evening to help coordinate dinner set-up.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Getting two cinnamon rolls at the end of breakfast! Being able to switch oatmeal day to biscuits and gravy day.

What is the hardest part of your job?

5:30 am wake-ups and knowing when to ask for help.

How many people do you feed in one meal. do you serve in a week?

A full camp week is 235. 17

Favorite SOS meal?

Grilled Chicken seasoned with dried rosemary with a dash of garlic and cheesy mashed potatoes. AKA Chicken with Lines.

What is the Lord teaching you this summer?

He is teaching me to ‘BE’. To stop stressing about things that I have no control over. To rest in him. And different ways to abide in Him.

Which staffer gives the best hugs?

Joy Hook. She’s does these behind hugs that you never see coming that sounds creepy but they aren’t! She just engulfs you in love. Also honorable mention, Emily Cole & Kelly Pitts Coon.
