Meet Our Summer Staff: Mary Kate Moore

How did you get connected to SOS? I saw it at a camp fair at Cedarville University. I heard about it through my friend Sarah Kuhn who was on staff in 2013

What is your role this summer?

My role is female staff servant.

What does a typical camp day look like for you?

While the team leaders are out at worksites, my time is kind of spent everywhere. A lot of my time is spent in the kitchen. I also spend time preparing notes for the team leaders and making their beds to encourage them, as well as taking care of tasks around the building. When they get back, I spend time trying to love them well however that might look—through conversation, or more tangible needs like a cupcake to get them through that day.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part is the small things that go unnoticed. Having an intentional conversation and being aware of where people’s hearts are Being able to make their day a little better.

What is the hardest part of your job?

The hardest part is always being ‘on’. My work during the day is more task-oriented but once everyone gets back from the worksites and gets to rest, that’s when I have to be more invested.

Favorite SOS tradition?

Celebrating 4th of July!

What is the Lord teaching you this summer?

That it really is for His glory. I tend to seek affirmation and approval but ultimately that’s not why I should strive to do things well. It’s all just to honor Him and make His name known.

What do you hope to pour into the summer staff?

I want them to know their value and their worth and remind them of that. Knowing that their worth is an inherent part of them because they’re made in the image of the Lord.

What’s one of your quirky loves?

I really like the smell of bleach.
