SOS Culture II - Our Purpose: God's Glory

This post is part of a series about 5 distinctives that are key to SOS’s culture.  Check out the rest of the series here.  These 5 culture distinctives are from David Montague’s talk to SOS summer staff alumni at the SOS 25th Anniversary.

The second culture distinctive is that SOS believes and proclaims that our ultimate purpose is to glorify God.

It's hard to read the Bible without coming to the conclusion that the goal of humankind is to bring glory to God.  Psalm 19:1 says, "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork."  The heavens that God created proclaim the glory of their Creator!  God's creation's purpose is to honor its Creator.

This has to impact absolutely everything we do.  Having this overarching purpose should shape where we live, what we do with our time, the way we work, our conversations, our families, the way we spend our money, absolutely everything!

By God's grace, SOS as an organization has maintained this God-centered vision over the past 25 years.  We pray that God will bring much glory to His own name through the work that we do.

This is a big topic.  If you're interested in learning more about the glory of God and our response to it, here is a free resource that's a great starting place.  If you want to dig even deeper, check out this book.
