SOS Family Album: Ella Larkin

Gather ‘round, SOS family! We’re pulling out a few pages of the family photo album.

We love good stories. And old pictures. And timeless lessons and encouragements and reasons for hope. Who better to share all of those things than some of the SOS alumni family?

There are so, so many joys knit into the work of SOS. One such joy is the way that people grow and become at SOS.

There is something so special about the campers who become summer staffers. Something about those one-week stints at SOS, summer after summer…and then the pride and ownership of being on the staff side of summer camp and being the staffers to lead groups of campers through the SOS experience that meant so much to them.

One such beloved camper turned staffer:

What did you learn through your years and experiences at SOS?

How to siphon roof water by mouth, cause Eli had the vac that day....
In all seriousness I learned how to be more open with others and it pushed me to be more vulnerable with the people around me.

Memphis Favorites:

High Point Pizza, Las Tortugas, Pete and Sams! #eatlocal

How did your time at SOS impact you?

SOS allowed me to be myself without fear of judgment from others, I could be as quirky and crazy as I wanted to be.
It also brought me some of the best friends ever and it allowed me to actively engage with the community around me and learn more about my home town!
Also, some staffers helped me realize that drinking at least 8 cans of Coca-Cola in one day, two were usually before breakfast, is not a healthy lifestyle choice and I have since then given it up completely.

What does your life look like these days?

I am currently a junior at UTK studying architecture and never getting any sleep.

What’s your prayer for the SOS family?

That they are able to continue their mission even in these crazy times!
